Why does ClearCase Explorer fail to launch?

I've done this for couple clients on Windows XP SP3, but in one of them, ClearCase Explorer failed to launch. Everything else works fine, e.g. project explorer.

IBM indicated this might be related to DEP setting but it is NOT.

The version installed is ClearCase 7.1.2.

Anyone has the same experience.

Please explain what you mean by, "I have done this"

Is there some configuration of the client that you have done?
Are you getting any messages in the Windows event logs or the clearcase logs?
Does the user have admin rights on this machine?

Most of the problems with running the ClearCase client, that I have found, were related to corporate security limiting rights on machines. This can be quite challenging to deal with.

I installed the ClearCase 7.1.2 on couple machines, and they are all running fine.

There is no error message, and no related message in ClearCase log or Windows event log.

The user does have local admin right on the machine.

IBM still cannot figure out after ran some traces.

But somehow we discovered that it is the CLEARCASE_PRIMARY_GROUP variable needed to be set under system level instead of user level.

Not sure why but maybe a work around for whoever experienced the same problem.

go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentVersion ,
and delete ClearCase Explorer registry key. logoff and login the system again. Now to try to launch clearcase explorer it will work.

Another Tech took over the PMR and found the root cause is related to the registry key setting.

It works fine now after changed the setting to __COMPAT_LAYER=EnableNXShowUI for windows explorer.

Hope it helps whoever got the same issue.
