Considered a classic, this book is also one that performance testers will find useful though it is primarily directed at designers. It presents a software performance engineering (SPE) methodology and discusses its application in various environments such as Web-based systems. The material is fairly technical – I often found myself re-reading a sentence to gain its full import, but I judge the effort to be well spent, even in the more advanced topics like performance patterns and anti-patterns.
