It's been my experience that auditors in the financial industry were looking to help depositors and investors - everyday people like you and me.

The auditors may ask the testers (or test managers) for supporting evidence of the work that has been performed. The activity of explaining my thoughts helped me test more effectively. I tend to avoid documentation when its only purpose is producing a stack of paper. If you feel like you're being asked to create documents that don't help you in any way, that may be a wasteful activity. Carefully consider why you're being asked to create the documents.
