We are using Clearcase UCM environment for more than 3 years.

Recently I'm hearing more about GIT and its performance. We have five multisite for same project and some work from home uses CCRC. Which will be the best Clearcase UCM or GIT?

Would an answer like "it depends" be ok ;)

som pros for clearcase

- partial checkouts
- acls (sort of)
- support (not to overestimate though, its ibm)
- integrations if needed (scc, visual studio, mature
eclipse)
- lock bevor edit (if required)
- ui (not the best, but at least)

some pros for git
- cost
- full offline capabilites (dvcs)
- some other cool stuff

As an bazaar and clearcase user I *can* say that a significant "shift of mindset" (hard for some types of developers) ist required while switching from clearcase to git (or bazaar).

And if you have customized ClearCase (ClearQuest Integration, Perl Triggers...) you have to find new solutions/ways with git for this.

Perhapes a evaluation and afterwards creating a demo usage szenario with git would be required.

Sorry, no shortcuts available for this IMHO.

First, I would answer that comparing git to UCM is unfair to ClearCase, and not only from the point of view of performance!

But I have to admit that moving from UCM to ClearCase is probably as much work as moving to git.

I believe there is more to gain, though. But it is not a matter of concepts, not of checkbox comparaison.
