This paper shows the present status of TILab approach to Web Performance Testing and Measurement. The paper also presents two Case Studies applied by TILab to Web Performance Evaluation of Telecom Italia SDH Network Management System and to the Web Site of an important Italian telecommunication service operator. Finally, some conclusions are given in order to clarify the methodological and experimental trends foreseen by TILab in the fast growing field of Web Performance Testing and Measurement.

Giuseppe Cassone been working for Telecom Italia Lab (TILAB) since 1997. TILAB is the Innovation Company of Telecom Italia Group (first fixed and mobile telecom operator in Italy). Graduated in Computer Science with a master in TLC, he has been always involved in performance evaluation projects focusing of every aspect of load testing and every correlated activity (resource monitoring, end-to-end monitoring, web log analysis), mainly in performance evaluation of management systems of Telecom Italia Network. He is one of the authors of “Web Performance testing and Measurement," a paper just presented in December at the CMG-USA 2001 and winner of the “best paper” at the CMG-ITALY last June. That paper, based on experience with Telecom Italia, describes what we consider a “complete” approach to web performance testing and measurement. This new paper is a natural consequence of that paper.
